One month in Bali, training under Per Brahe.
After my first workshop with Per in July of 2023- my creative imagination was on fire and stimulated like never before. While in Bali, Per and I had discussions about the possibilities of the work and its long term potential. After I returned home, things simply couldn’t go back to business-as-usual. I reached out to Per with a desire to teach the work and be his apprentice- he accepted.
I then dove into months of research into mythology, Joseph Campbell, Carl Jung, and a 40-year retrospective of Per’s working legacy. From this research came a comprehensive plan for the future of the mask work, named Brahe Mask in honor of Per. This plan includes explorations into the subconsciousness through the dramatic structure of Greek Mythology, the spiritual archetypes of the Tarot, and the archetypal work of Carl Jung.
I returned to Bali less than six months later at the end of 2023, and underwent an intense process of apprenticeship to Per, where he trained my imagination, body and spirit intensely- forging the strong qualities it takes to become a mask teacher. During that apprenticeship, I deepened my understanding of the work, and was further inspired to take my research further. Per and I have since been working on this new direction for the work, with Per and his Balinese collaborators crafting new selections to be used in the years to come.
Now, I am a working Mask Teacher in New York, teaching workshops and training actors. Most recently, my skills were implemented as Mask Director for an immersive production of The Seagull by Anton Chekhov, with Gaea & Co. Theatre Company.
